DYNAMITE WEEKEND FOR SILVERS SWIMMERS, 18 SWIMMERS ADVANCE/ADD TO JUNIOR OLYMPIC SWIMS
Building upon the momentum generated by Elite’s spectacular results during the past few weeks of championship swimming, the Elite “Silver” swimmers performed magnificiently this weekend at the New Jersey Silver Championships held at Rutgers University.
Faced with the last chance to qualify for Junior Olympics (to be held next weekend), 18 Elite swimmers (out of 63-over 28%) rose to the occasion and produced 24 new Junior Olympic swims.
Elite was led by Brittany Ross, who produced 4 Junior Olympic cuts (and she just missed in her two other swims). Ross started her onslaught by winning the Girls 13-14 400 yard Individual Medley by 5 seconds (5.05.28)! Ross also won the Girls 13-14 100 back (1.07.67).
Following Ross’s lead were multiple Junior Olympic qualifiers Duncan Hall (Boys 11-12 50 breast-38.12 & 200 back 2.40.69), Breana Fitzpatrick (Girls 11-12 100 breast-1.21.44 & 200 breast 3.00.74) and sister Nicki Ross (Girls 11-12 50 back-33.06 & 100 back-1.12.79).
Other qualifiers were (in the order the cuts were made):

In addition to these swims, there were dozens of other fabulous Elite performances. Some of those were:
1) Sarah Donatelli’s 16 second drop in the 400 IM (5.31.13)
2) Craig Bostwick’s 4 second drop in the 200 fly (2.16.05), good for 2nd place
3) Mickey Ennis’s 6 second drop in the 500 Free (and all 6 swims being personal bests)
4) Kim Jones 6 second drop in the 200 butterfly (from last week’s Bronze Championship meet) 2.37.59
5) Meghan Liu’s 3rd place finish in the 200 breast-fighting back from significant knee surgery
6) Kasey Bond’s 4th place finish in the 100 butterfly-after struggling with knee problems for 2 years
7) Lydia Vollavanh’s 4 second drop in the 100 breast (1.24.54)
8) Mary Cullen’s 6 second drop in the 200 breast
9) Corey Deatly’s 5 second drop in both the 200 breast & the 500 free
10) Katie McCullough’s 4 second drop in the 100 fly
11) Will Peter’s 4 second drop in the 400 IM

JUNIOR OLYMPIC ROSTER: 32 SWIMMERS TO COMPETE IN 119 INDIVIDUAL SWIMS
Elite’s best will compete at the prestigious Junior Olympic Championships this coming weekend. Thirty-two swimmers have posted cut times fast enough to compete in 119 individual events.
In addition, 9 Elite swimmers will help the “JO 32” in 16 relay competitions.

Note to qualifiers: All JO swimmers (including relay swimmers) are to practice on Thursday, March 17. There will be a special “send-off” party starting about 6:30 pm.
Please be advised that Silver and Junior Olympic swimmers should not perform any “new” physical activity prior to their meet (including shoveling or a new sport) as the swimmers are in a rest period. “New” physical activitiy will have adverse consequences on the resting body!!!

348 ELITE SWIMMERS AND PARENTS TO CELEBRATE SEASON AT “END OF THE SEASON” BANQUET
At total of 348 swimmers and parents are planning on attending Elite’s annual party ritual to be held at the Hanover Marriott Hotel’s Grand Ballroom in Whippany on Sunday, April 3.
Highlights of this year’s dinner will include: attendence awards, participation awards, a slide show and dancing (music spun by a professional DJ!!!).
In addition, 13 familys who can’t attend have generously given to the coaches gift fund!
TOP 10 TIMES NOW POSTED ON WEBSITE
Thru an excellent parental suggestion, the Top 10 Times list is now posted on Elite’s website. Thru last weekend’s Open Distance Meet, 52 Elite have added 154 new top 10 times (better than 20% of the Elite swim team!!).
The computer allows to Elite to easily keep track of the top 10 fastest times in each event ever achieved by club members within “Elite” competitions. This “Top 10” list has been updated and a copy of the list is located in the back of the mailbox located at Newark Academy.

SUMMER: THINK SWIM CAMPS
When planning the upcoming summer, please consider sending your Elite swimmer to one of the numerous swim camps available within driving distance.
Each summer, numerous Elite swimmers spend a rewarding week (or two) at a summer swim camp. The benefits of such a camp are: 1) individual attention by reknown swim coaches 2) an increased knowledge of the sport of swimming and 3) personal growth that occurs as a result of “being on one’s own.”
The formula that seems to work best is finding an Elite friend to spend the week with at the swim camp.
If you are considering sending your swimmer to a swim camp, now is the time to do the research and make decisions (many of these camps are sold out by mid-Spring). In the back of the mailbox, there are a list of swim camps which Elite swimmers have attended in the past and where to find more information about each camp. In addition, Bill can email this list to you at your request.

NJ TIME STANDARDS POSTED ON ELITE’S WEBSITE
Time Standards for the End of the Season Championship Meets have been adopted by New Jersey Swimming, are posted on Elite’s website (under time standards) and are posted on the wall at Newark Academy. These standards are final for the 2004-05 season.
PARENTS ORGANIZATION UPDATE
FUNDRAISER COMMITTEE: Rita Furdyna (rfurdyna@watsonpharm.com) and Peter Wolfson (pjwolfson@pbnlaw.com) have agreed to be co-chairs of the Fundraiser Committee.
Initial ideas focused on including fundraising efforts during the Elite End of the Season Banquet scheduled for April 3. Suggestions included gift baskets, program, 50-50’s and raffles.
Rita and Peter would welcome outsided ideas for the above and/or additional fundraisers. Please contact Rita or Peter at the above email addresses with your ideas and/or your willingness to volunteer.
TIMERS COMMITTEE: The timing committee and coordination of timing assignments is evolving. All Parents attending meets are requested to:
1) volunteer to time and/or 2) volunteer to organize the timing at each session at the meets. More information will be provided shortly.
