Behavioral Expectations for Elite Swimmers

As an Elite Swim Club member, I understand that membership in Elite is a privilege.

The honor of that privilege must be upheld by each member’s behavior. No person has the right to be a member of Elite. This right is earned each day by my good behavior.

All Elite swimmers are expected to act in a responsible manner at all times. By signing this document, I pledge to act responsible at all times. I understand that it is not possible to delineate rules covering every possible situation that I, as a swimmer, will encounter. I will use common courtesy and sensitivity to the rights of others and to the facilities that we use (Newark Academy and Morristown-Beard School in addition to all the other meet or training facilities) in all situations.

I understand that all swimmers will and must be held accountable for their actions. I will be held accountable for my actions. As an Elite swimmer, I might earn the right to travel with the team to meets and training sites (both within New Jersey and out of state). I understand that I will need to behave appropriately during these trips/meets.

I expressly understand that the following behavioral issues are unacceptable to my coaches, my teammates and myself. If I violate any of the following behavioral issues, I understand that I face suspension, demotion or permanent removal from Elite.

If necessary, Elite coaches and teammates will need to be cooperative with local authorities in conducting any investigation into illegal behavioral activities by Elite swimmers. If I am uncooperative, I will also face suspension, demotion or permanent removal from Elite.

Lastly, if I am aware that any of the following behavioral issues are being violated by my teammates and if I do no promptly alert a parent or coach of the situation, I will also face suspension or permanent removal from Elite.

Behavioral Issues Unacceptable at Elite

*physical aggression, fighting or causing bodily harm to others (this includes physical

intimidation of another swimmer)

*harassing another swimmer thru taunting, menacing words, teasing, making inappropriate

remarks (including comments which could be construed as sexual harassment) or any

conduct which threatens another swimmer or coach (this includes contact over the

phone, in writing, by email, by instant messaging, text messaging and any/all modes of

communication)

*possession of any object that might be considered dangerous and might inflict physical harm,

including but not limited to: any type of knife or object with a sharp edge, any firearm or

fireworks.

*insubordination or swearing at a coach or teammate

*use of alcohol or controlled substances (tobacco, illegal or non-prescription drugs). This

includes ‘legal” drugs/substances used for illegal purposes

*violation of any New Jersey and/or Federal law. Even if the violation occurs outside of Elite

activities, I understand that I will be held accountable for my actions as if the violation

occurred during Elite activities

I pledge to be an “elite” member of my team, my school and my world thru my actions and words. By signing this document, I pledge to act responsibly at all times and be held accountable to my coaches and teammates if I do no uphold this pledge.
