ELITE NEWS BULLETIN 11-06-06
ELITE DOMINATES
TRI-MEET; INCREDIBLE IMPROVEMENT SEEN:
Competing in a tri-meet against the Caldwell Cyclones and the Monmouth Barracudas, the Elite Age Group swimmers were clearly the leaders of the three teams.
In 24 events, Elite swimmers won 17 events!! In 12 of those 17 events, Elite swimmers also placed 2nd!!
Elite’s 8 & Under Girls lead the way as Kaitlin Stearns (two 1sts & a 5th), Christina Pick (one 1st & two 2nds), Caroline Nash (two 3rds & a 4th), Lauren Kelly (a 3rd & two 4ths) and Andrea Ferrell (two 5ths & a 6th) completely dominated their age group.
Elite’s 9 & 10 Girls were lead by Regan Kology (1st place in the 50 free & 50 breast) and Andrea Shepard (1st place in 50 back). Zackie Katz led the 9 & 10 Boys with two 1st place finishes.
Brannon Cho, Katie Ragan, Robert Maloney, Brent Jones, Amanda Scherb & Greg Keiser all won events in the 11 & Older Session.
When studying the times on the website, please keep in mind that the Morristown-Beard School pool is 25 meters (not 25 yards as Newark Academy and most indoor pools are). Because Elite does not use “conversion” times (mathematically “converting” a yard time to a meter time), the improvement noted on the website results is a meter to meter improvement. Where there is a dash, it means the child has not competed that event in a meter pool.
Swimmers who participated (# in parathesis is number of best SC Meter best times): Arlynn Baer (3), Chris Balbo (3), Megan Balbo (3), Brielle Barba (3), Eric Binder (3), Nicole Blum (3), Katie Brosnan (3), Keegan Brown (3), Kayla Burakovsky (3), Alexa Burkard (2), John Burkard (3), John Burns (3), Taylor Campolattaro (3), Monica Carty (2), Brannon Cho (3), Jonny Crowther (3), Laura Culiuc (2), Elizabeth D’Altrui (3), Jeffrey Dong (2), Sam Duren (3), Avinash Duvvuri (2), Anna Elston (3), Helena Elston (2), Brandon Faris (3), Kristen Fedor (2), Juliet Felsen (3), Emilie Ferguson (3), Andrea Ferrell (3), Victoria Fetner (3), Spencer Fisch (2), Erika Fresen (3), Hannah Gleason (3), Joe Gleason (3), Emily Goad (3), Katie Golway (3), Alexandra Gordon (3), Dominique Gordon (3), Katie Gorman (2), Rachel Greene (3), Andrea Guacelli (3), Payton Hakes (3), Scott Harris (3), Alyssa Hartigan (3), Brent Jones (3), Zackie Katz (2), Greg Keiser (3), Kirsten Kellstrom (2), Mark Kellstrom (3), Michael Kellstrom (3), Caroline Kelly (3), Lauren Kelly (3), Brandon King (3), Sarah Kleppe (3), Regan Kology (2), Jared Kovacs (3), Emmie Lai (3), Patrick Lai (3), Clark LaRaia (3), Isabel LaRaia (3), Ricky LaSalvia (3), Matt Lemons (3), Aaron Levin (2), Brandon Li (3), Jessie Lowe (3), Sarah Lowe (3), Robert Maloney (3), Daniela Manzi (3), Marisa Manzi (3), Megan McEvoy (3), Katie McGrath (3), Sarah McGrath (3), Matthew Migliozzi (3), Brendan Miller-Radest (3), Colin Miller-Radest (3), Kara Miller-Radest (3), Isabella Morreale (2), Cesar Munoz (3), Madison Munoz (2), Dan Muro (2), Julia Muro (3), Kendall Murray (1), Caroline Nash (3), Rebecca Niccolai (3), Gregory Niccolai (3), Dara O’Gorman (3), Nick Pachiolo (3), Christina Pick (3), Gabrielle Pick (3), Michelle Pick (2), Chris Plunkett (3), Katie Ragan (1), Taylor Savarese (3), Amanda Scherb (2), Jonathan Scott (3), RJ Serruto (3), Andrea Shepard (3), Bethany Stachenfeld (2), Kaitlin Stearns (3), Lindsay Stearns (2), James Sullivan (3), Erica Takahashi (2), Lexi Tedesco, Spencer Todd (3), Sydney Todd (2), Emily Torre (3), Jennifer Torre (3), Spence Turkington (3), Michael Wang (3), Caroline Watt (3), Sarah Weinbrom (3), Natalie Wetmore (3), Maggie Woodruff (3), Harry Woods (3) & Richard Yu (3).
SENIORS &
SENIOR PREPS FLAT IN COLLEGE
TRI-MEET FORMAT:
The Elite Seniors and Senior Preps competed in a college dual meet format this Saturday against the two very strong teams: Jersey Gators and the Monmouth Barracudas. The combination of coming off last weekend’s Fall Festival Meet plus most Elite swimmers participating in their “off” events resulted in a very flat performance by the Elite squad.
The best swims were by younger Elite swimmers. 13 year old Maggie Nelson dropped 13 seconds in her 500 Free swim while 13 year old Carolyn DeMeo dropped 15 seconds in the same event. Venkatesh Duvvuri dropped almost a second in his 200 Fly from last week’s great swim. 12 year old Michael Li swam his 1st 1000 yard swim in an impressive 12.21.76 time. 14 year old Michelle Franks posted best personal times in both her events: 1000 Free and 200 back.
Swimmers who participated (# in parathesis is number of best SC Meter best times): Lindsay Anderson (2), Kat Cupka (1), Victoria D’Altrui , Chris Dart, Corey Deatly, Tad Deatly (1), Carolyn DeMeo (2), Priya Duvvuri (1), Venkatesh Duvvuri (1), Michelle Franks (2), Alistair Hall (1), Kim Jones (2), David Lemons, Michael Li (2), Ricky Martin (1), Danielle Martinez, Austin Meszaros (1), Ali Morreale, Maggie Nelson (2), Sarah Peay (2), Brittany Ross, Nicki Ross (1), Michael Strand (3) & Kayla Wolonsky.

COMBINATION OF
WATCHING A FILM NIGHT, BEING IN THE POOL SCHEDULED FOR FRIDAY, DEC 1ST:
Ever dreamed of combining two of your favorite pastimes: swimming and watching a video? Well, the Elite Swim Club’s Parent Organization (ESCPO) will make it happen on Friday night, December 1st at Morristown-Beard.
ESCPO is hard at work planning a night where every Elite swimmer will be invited to bring a floatation device to use in the MBS pool while watching a movie projected onto the Pool Wall. Dinner will also be served.
Tentative plans are as follows:
At 7 pm, the Elite youngsters (probably 12 & Under) will be invited to watch a Disney movie (Little Mermaid) while floating around in the pool. At approximately 8:30 pm (when the movie is over), dinner will be served to all Elite swimmers (pizza, etc). At 9:00 pm, the 12 & U will leave, and the 13 & Olders will take over the pool to watch “Jaws.”
Stay tuned for more details and Save the Date!!!

INCIDENT AT NEWARK
ACADEMY FORCES TIGHTER SECURITY; GYM DOORS TO LOCK AT 6 PM; ENTRANCE
NOW AT MAIN DOORS AFTER THAT TIME; WAVE GOLDS TAKE NOTE:
A random but dangerous security situation last week at Newark Academy has prompted the school to significantly tighten security after 6 pm on an go forward basis. As a result, the gym doors (entrance from the lower parking lot to the pool) will be locked at 6 pm from now on and the only entrance into Newark Academy will be thru the main entrance in the school (by the circle) past a security guard.
Last Thursday, a suspected thief fleeing the Livingston Mall entered Newark Academy between 4 and 4:15 pm before escaping into the nearby woods. No injury occurred as a result of this incident.
Concerned with possible situations that could have occurred as a result of this situation, Newark Academy has tighten security to school as of last Friday. All visitors to the building will be required to enter thru the main entrance, where a security guard is posted, after 6 pm. This will specificially affect the Wave Gold training group, whom’s practice times start after 6 pm. Please plan to arrive alittle earlier to take into account the addition time it will take to get to the pool.
SOME
HELPFUL DO’S AND DON’TS TO HELP YOU SUCCEED:
Here are some Do’s and Don’ts that will be helpful this
weekend and the rest of the season:
DO stay well hydrated (drink good fluids) and stay well
rested (get sleep).
DO eat a variety of colorful healthy
foods.
DO get to practice on time (early).
DO wear hooded sweat shirts and wear sweats to drylands.
DO carry a symmetrical double strap
backpack to school- use both shoulder straps to evenly distribute weight.
Side slung book bags creats uneven stress on the body-which has to compensate
for the uneven weight and often times leads to shoulder, hip, knee injuries.
DO congratulate and cheer your
teammates for a job well done OR a challenge met-att practice or at a meet. Be
a leader of enthusiasm!!!
DO repeat to yourself Elite
training philosophy: "Today is my most important practice
because..."
DON'T forget you are not just any swimmer; you are an ELITE
swimmer AND an Elite Person. Correct behavior is as important (if not more
important) than fast times.
DON’Tt eat junk food (and yes, that
includes all candy in the machine at MBS).
HIGH SCHOOL SWIMMING TO AFFECT
