GREAT ATTENDENCE+HARD WORK+FOCUS=SPECTACULAR FALL FESTIVAL RESULTS:

ALELOV, DORENO, FISCH, KATZ, KOLOGY, LEVIN, MORRISON, C. PICK, K. STEARNS,
STRAND & WEINBROM DELIVER JO CUTS:
The formula is simple for swimming success: come to practice every day, work hard and focus your efforts to improve your conditioning and technique. Sounds easy. It’s not.
In the swimming world, great results that are usually derived from this formula should start coming at mid-season (December & January). The beginning of the season is for aerobic training and teaching. As the season wears on and racing becomes a weekly occurrence, times drop. If you’re lucky, some best times come early in the season, usually in the distance events (as a result of the aerobic training).
But this past weekend at Fall Festival held at Princeton University, Elite swimmers applied this success formula to perform at mid-season or even end of season levels! In early November! The results were so good it is hard to know where to start (and the below items are only the spectacular results, there were dozens of fabulous results –see website for results):
1) 16 year old Chris Dart dominated his competition by winning 4 events (3 in best times). Chris handily beat nemesis Charley Wang in both backstroke (100-53.53, 200-1.52.95) events and held off Scott Marino (who was seeded with a 4 second advantage) in the 200 IM. Chris also tied for 1st in the 50 free (21.79).
2) 10 year old Zackie Katz also won 4 events (50 breast-37.86, 50 fly-33.32 & 100 breast-1.22.85 & 50 free-29.32). Incrediably, Zachie qualified for Junior Olympic times in both breaststroke events in the 11-12 age group, which is important since Zachie ages-up in January. Zachie also placed 2nd in the 50 back and 3rd in the 200 IM (2.49.55)
3) 14 year old Michael Strand won his two backstroke 2 events (100 back-54.33 & 200 back-2.0030) and placed 2nd in his two breast events (100-1.04.83 & 200 2.21.35). Michael also dropped 4 seconds in the 200 free (1.54.34)
4) the Boys 10 & U Medley Relay, consisting of Chris Balbo, Andre Guacelli, Zachie Katz & Aaron Levin not only won, but won by 5.9 seconds!
5) 11 Elite swimmers added 17 Junior Olympic cuts to the team’s resume (since Sept 1st, Elite has increased their JO cuts from 15 swimmers and 62 events to 23 swimmers with 94 events!). And these are only JO cuts that will be swum; there were numerous other JO swims (performed by Matt Ahlmeyer, Brannon Cho, Krishna Duvvuri, Breana Fitzpatrick, Andre Guacelli, Zachie Katz, Dan Muro,Gabrielle Pick, Michelle Pick & Michael Strand) by swimmers who will age-up prior to JO’s.
6) two 9 year old girls: Kaitlin Stearns and Christina Pick performed equally with their older competitors. Stearns performed a JO swim in each of her 6 races and placed 4th in the grueling 500 free (6.46.99). Kaitlin also placed 5th in both her back events (50-35.44 & 100-1.18.00). Pick added her 2nd JO cut, this time in the 100 breast (1.34.37).
7) Swimmers who posted Junior Olympic cuts were:
1) newcomer Michael Alelov, who dropped 3 seconds to post his 2nd JO time this season
2) 11 year old Alli Dorneo cruised to a 200 back qualifying time (2.37.15) in her 1st time swimming the event
3) Spencer Fisch dropped 4.7 seconds to add his 2nd JO cut of the year-this time in the 100 back (1.02.79)
4) 11 year old Regan Kology added 2 JO’s this weekend, in the 100 free (1.01.84) & 100 breast (1.20.70) as her total is now 7 events. Regan also cruised to a 5.52.95 500 free time (swimming the front 200 in a 2.17.79-just over a JO cut she does not yet have)
5) 10 year old Aaron Levin posted JO swims in each of his 6 races, saving his best for last as he placed 2nd (behind Katz) in the 50 free (31.14)
6) 16 year old Alex Morrison churned to a JO cut in the 200 fly (2.09.53), only 10 minutes after swimming the 100 free in a 49.23
7)
12 year old Sarah Weinbrom also gutted out a 200
fly JO swim (2.46.53) for her 1st JO cut of the season

JG DUAL MEET TO BE POSTED TUESDAY; PRACTICE ALSO OFFERED:
The line-up for the Jersey Gator dual meet for this Saturday will be posted on Tuesday. The event schedule and the format were not provided to Elite until late last week.
Unlike most Elite meets, this meet will be an event-limited meet-meaning that Elite will be limited to the amount of swimmers to be entered in each event. Thus, it is likely not all Elite swimmers in the Wavebuster Golds, Wavebuster Blacks and Wavebuster Teals will be entered in this meet as was originally planned for by Elite.
Since Elite anticipated that all swimmers in this level would be participating, Elite will also hold a practice/clinic for those swimmers not participating in the meet on Saturday. Please see schedule for details.
COMPUTER GEEKS: WE NEED YOU TO RUN MEETS (APPRENTICE THIS SUNDAY):
This Sunday, Elite will begin training parents with computer skills to help run the electronics of a meet. Bill hopes that eventually (or sooner) to be able to extract himself as the computer operator so that he can attend to other functions within Elite (this weekend, some Elite swimmers are participating in a meet plus Seniors have practice-thus, Bill is stretched a bit).
Training will begin this weekend and will continue at each home Elite intraclub/dual meet this season. At this Sunday’s meet, the Elite 10 & U’s will compete against Morris County Swim Club in a dual meet in the 1st session. In the 2nd session, Elite will hold a intraclub meet for the 11 & Olders. Please see the meet info page on the website for details.
Any interested parent need only to show up this Sunday 20 minutes prior to warm-up to get started! No need to contact Bill in advance.
SWIM MEET “LOST & FOUND” BROUGHT BACK TO NA; PLEASE CHECK
YOUR ITEMS AT HOME:
As anyone at Princeton this weekend knows, the crowded situation at meets creates a ripe situation where items are going to be left, lost or accidentally picked up by other swimmers. Swimmers and parents should know the following:
1) Items easily identified as Elite’s that are left at the meet are brought back to Newark Academy and placed in the lost & found.
2) Items with names on them are much more easily identifiable. If not already done so, write your name on all swim gear and team uniform items so they can get back to you.
3) As a courtesy to your fellow swimmers, please check the items you bring home to confirm they are actually yours. You may have accidentally picked up someone else’s uniform, suit or goggles.
PRACTICE SCHEDULE CHANGES (SLIGHTLY) NOVEMBER 15 FOR MARLINS &
WAVE BLACKS:
Swimmers and Parents are reminded that the practice schedule will change come Monday, November 19. The changes will affect the Marlin Teals, the Marlin Blacks and the Wavebuster Black training groups.
Starting Thursday, November 15, Newark Academy’s high school and middle schools will begin training for their winter competitions. To accommodate NA, the immediate effect will be that the Marlin Teals and Marlin Blacks will “lose” 15 minutes of training (actually, we added 15 minutes of training in September and October and just revert back to the original practice schedule) and begin training at 5:15 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays.
In addition, on those Saturdays when they are not competing the Wave Blacks practice will now be held from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm and at Morristown-Beard.
Elite practices will also be disrupted when Newark Academy and Millburn High School (which will practice after Elite leaves at 8:30 pm) begin their competitions. Please remain in the habit of checking the practice schedule.
SWIMMERS
& PARENTS REMINDED TO LOOK AT MEET SCHEDULE FOR INFO
Information regarding what training groups are competing at what meets is posted on the website under Meet Schedule. Please click on the tentative Meet Schedule at the top of the home page and look to see what training groups are competing at which meets.
