SWIMMERS ADD RACING TO THEIR TRAINING REGIMENT;

BUCKHAM, KOLOGY, LEVIN, MORRISON & TWO STEARNS EARN JO SWIMS:

As the team heads towards the middle of the 2007-08 training season, swimmers are asked to translate their hard practicing into actual competition. This is done to help prepare them for their final exams-the end of the season championships. To this end, this past week/weekend was the start of a 4 week run when the swimmers compete in multiple meets and multiple events to help them become battle tested.

Hopefully, the results each weekend will be as fabulous as they were this past weekend!!

In three separate competitions, 6 Elite swimmers: Ryan Buckham, Regan Kology, Aaron Levin, Alex Morrison, Lindsay Stearns and Kaitlin Stearns added a total of 8 Junior Olympic qualifying times to their collective resumes.

Ironically, the most outstanding swim of the weekend actually occurred Thursday night during the intra-club Wave Golds Team 1000, where 11 year old Regan Kology rocketed to an eye popping 11.54.57 Junior Olympic qualifying time. This was a 2 minute drop for Regan in this event. To put this in proper perspective, Regan’s time would have placed her 6th at last spring’s Junior Olympics in the 11-12 age group!! And she is only 11 and it is still October!

In fact, the best of swimming of a great swimming weekend may have been at the Wave Gold Team 1000, as each Wave Gold swimmer posted a best time and the MINIMUM drop was 40 seconds!  And many of the prior best times were from a late September time trial!

Kology kept the momentum going by adding two additional Junior Olympic cut times to her resume- in the 50 Breast (36.91, placing 4th) and the 100 IM (1.11.79, placing 3rd) at the Hall-o-ween Classic Meet held at Seton Hall University over the weekend.

Joining Kology with a Junior Olympic qualifying time in the Team 1000 was 11 year old Lindsay Stearns, who dropped 1 minute 40 seconds to turn in a 12.50.77 time. Two other 12 & Unders, Katie Gorman and Andrea Shepard just missed the JO time in the 1000 with 13.04.20 and 13.06.87 times (JO time is 13.00.49). 13 year old Sam Duren dropped 158 seconds (2 minutes and 48 seconds) in the biggest drop of the night.

At the Hall-o-ween Classic meet, Ryan Buckham posted his 2nd Junior Olympic qualifying time in October by cruising to a 1st place finish in the 11-12 Boys 50 breast event in a 37.00 time.

Also adding a Junior Olympic time was 9 year old Kaitlin Stearns, who dropped 6.5 seconds in the 100 free (1.10.85) in placing 2nd.

10 year old Aaron Levin, who already had 6 JO qualifying times, added his 7th during his 4th place the 100 back (1.23.44) swim. Levin also placed 2nd in each of this other swims (100 free & 100 IM).

At an informal College Dual Meet Format competition for older swimmers held in Cranford, 16 year old Alex Morrison added his 7th Junior Olympic qualifying time to his resume in his 200 IM, posting a 2.06.92 time.

Other performances of note at the Halloween Meet: 10 year old Zachie Katz won the 100 free (1.06.72) and placed 2nd in the 100 back (1.20.07), 11 year old Alli Dorneo won the 50 back event in a 33.88 time (just .3 over the JO mark), 12 year old Krishna Duvvuri placed 2nd in the 50 Breast with a 37.24 time, 12 year old Dan Muro placed 2nd in the 50 back (34.65) & 14 year old Spencer Fisch placed 2nd in the 100 breast with a 1.12.24 time.

In addition to these fine performances, there were numerous Silver qualifying times accomplished by Elite swimmers this past weekend.

PRACTICE SCHEDULE CHANGES (SLIGHTLY) NOVEMBER 15 FOR MARLINS & WAVE BLACKS:

Swimmers and Parents are reminded that the practice schedule will change come Monday, November 19. The changes will affect the Marlin Teals, the Marlin Blacks and the Wavebuster Black training groups.

Starting Thursday, November 15, Newark Academy’s high school and middle schools will begin training for their winter competitions. To accommodate NA, the immediate effect will be that the Marlin Teals and Marlin Blacks will “lose” 15 minutes of training (actually, we added 15 minutes of training in September and October and just revert back to the original practice schedule) and begin training at 5:15 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays.

In addition, on those Saturdays when they are not competing the Wave Blacks practice will now be held from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm and at Morristown-Beard.

Elite practices will also be disrupted when Newark Academy and Millburn High School (which will practice after Elite leaves at 8:30 pm) begin their competitions. Please remain in the habit of checking the practice schedule.
