8 ELITE SWIMMERS RAISE $1,960 FOR THE “SUNSHINE KIDS”:
8 Elite swimmers (actually 7 and a sibling) swam laps this past Saturday & raised $1,960 to raise money for the “Sunshine Kids” Organization, a national organization that provides activities for children with cancer.
Representing Elite were: Chris Dart ($800), Corey Deatly ($50), Tad Deatly ($110), Cassandra Farnow ($100), Taylor Maloney ($250 swimming for brother Robert Maloney), Ricky Martin ($100) & Michael Strand ($500). Approximately 50 swimmers, including adults, participated in this event.
Last year this event, which was sponsored by Prudential New Jersey Properties of New Providence and Summit, raised over $5,000 last year. Preliminary projections is that swimmers raised significantly more than that this year!!!

PARENTS SOCIAL
AND OFFICIALS MEETING THIS WEEK:
Two major
non-competition events will occur this week for parents: on Thursday night from
7:00 pm to 9:00 pm there will be class to teach perspective Stroke & Turn
judges at Morristown-Beard School and on Friday night Oct 12, ESCPO will host
its first parent social from 7:30 pm to 10:00 pm at the Chatham Fish & Game
Club (41 Fairmount Ave, across from the Chatham train station).
To effectively run meets, Elite needs a variety of parents to volunteer their time and efforts during these meets. This season, Elite will be strongly encouraging those parents who have an interest to become New Jersey certified officials.
To run New Jersey sanctioned meets, certified officials are a necessity. Currently within New Jersey Swimming, there is a shortage of officials certified. Elite, while having 6 certified is understaffed and thus, under represented officiating meets. In addition, Elite likes to have officials present even when we run our dual meets/intraclub meets, as the officials provide significant feed back as to areas the coaches need to focus upon.
Regarding
the parent social, 44 families and 85 people have already rsvp’ed that they are
attending! If you have not rsvp’ed but would like to attend, please email Moya
Chew-Lai at ESCPO@aol.com today!!!
LCM JO’S: STATS TELL STORY OF ELITE’S SUCCESS VERSES COMPETITION:
Statistics provided by New Jersey Swimming show just how well Elite performed this past July at the Long Course Junior Olympics against its competition.
In addition to scoring a LCM history high 620.5 points to place 11th overall (last year at SCY JO’s the team scored a history high 768 points to place 12th), Elite had the 2nd lowest percentage of swims over the qualifying times for teams that competed in a minimum of 100 events (Elite competed in 98 events). As a team, Elite had only 7 swims over the Junior Olympic cut times for an 8% average. New Jersey Wave had the lowest at 7.4% in 227 swims.
There were a total of 47 teams whom competed and there were 14 teams with 100 or more events. The over the cut time percentages ranged from NJ Waves low to a high of 38.1%. In addition to swimming spectacular, this tremendous performance also collaborates that there is no correct conversion time standard. Many NJ teams convert times from SCY competition to enter their swimmers; NJ Wave and Elite do not.
DISTANCE DERBY
IS FULL!!
Distance Derby, Elite’s sanctioned New Jersey Swim Meet held November 17 & 18 is the 1st meet of the 2007-08 calendar to be fully subscribed and closed out!

WITH MEETS FAST APPROACHING, SWIMMERS & PARENTS ARE REMINDED
OF
TEAM SUIT, UNIFORM & RELAY POLICIES:
Starting
in two weeks with the BAC dual meets, Elite will begin its competition season
that will run thru the middle of March 2008. Elite teams act as a unit and
follow procedures set forth by their coaches. Elite has several policies all
swimmers and parents need to understand and follow regarding competitions.
Elite Simmers are expected to know and follow these procedures:
1)
Elite has a team suit policy. Each
swimmer is expected to wear their team suit at all non-end of the season
championship meets
Elite swimmers perform
in their team suit until championship season. Each swimmer is provided a team
uniform (t-shirts, sweats and racing caps are in but we are awaiting delivery
of team suit-expected next week prior to the BAC meet. These items will be
distributed to each swimmer at practice to meet). Elite swimmers do NOT wear
technically advanced racing suits at any non-championship meet (with possible
exceptions being a swimmer trying for a state record or for a national level
qualifying standard). Elite coaches believe that the swimmer makes the suit,
rather than the suit making the swimmer. Thus, we hold back using these types
of suits (fastskins, FS-II, aquablades, etc) until our championship season,
when we bring everything together (training, positive mental attitudes, stroke
technique and fast suits). This guarantees that swimmers will be excited to
perform their best when their best is required! (coaches can and will remove a
swimmer from a meet if they are not in the proper team racing attire.
2) At every meet,
wear your correct t-shirt!!
Each swimmer is
provided with a team uniform consisting of two Elite t-shirts, a sweatshirt and
a racing cap. Swimmers are expected to wear the team uniform at the meets (it
is the swimmer’s responsibility to know which t-shirt to wear on which day of
the competition. This information is listed within the meet information of each
meet on the team website. Smart swimmers pack both t-shirts so they can never
be wrong!). Swimmers are expected to wear the t-shirts (to keep warm, and thus
increase the possibility of performing well) at all times at meets when they
are not performing. Thus, Elite swimmers look like a team (psychological
advantage to Elite) and are the best prepared to perform well. Swimmers and
training groups will be penalized if swimmers are not in the team uniform at
the meet.
3)
Any pre-meet relay combination is
subject to change at the meet!!!
At several meets during the season, Elite will enter teams in relays (Fall Festival of X-Cellence Meet being the 1st meet). All swimmers entered in
relays prior to the meet are done so tentatively. This means the coaches will be determining the fastest relays on the day of the meet. Thus, a swimmer
who is tentatively scheduled to perform a relay could be removed and a swimmer who is not listed could be inserted. Changes will be made on the
day of the meet based upon performances at the meet that dictate a change in the relay combination. We want our 4 fastest swimmers to represent
Elite in the each relay (spectacular and mediocre performances will factor into the coaches decision making process!).

SUMMER “20”:
PARENTS NEED TO GET INFO TO BILL:
Last summer, the Elite coaches challenged swimmers in the Wavebuster Teal, Marlin Black and Marlin Teal training groups to add Elite swim practices to their summer regiment. Five workouts for each of these training groups plus a calendar were posted on Elite’s website. Swimmers were challenged to do 20 workouts during the summer and parents were requested to keep tabs of these workouts on the calendar.
Parents of the “stud” swimmers who met the challenge and
completed a minimum of 20 of these workouts are requested to get the calendar
to Bill (by email or place it in Bill’s mailbox) so that Elite can organize and
present the earned rewards. This needs to be done by Friday, Sept 22 (end of
the 1st week of practice for these training groups).
WHEN IN DOUBT, CHECK THE WEBSITE:
If you have questions about Elite, your first source of information is Elite’s website located at eliteswimclub.org. When in doubt, first check the website!!! If you do not see what you need, email Bill at eliteswimclubnj@comcast.net
