TIME TRIALS
PRODUCE UPDATED (AND GREAT) TIMES; RESULTS POSTED ON WEBSITE;
9 YEAR OLD
CHRISTINA PICK EARNS 1ST JO CUT TIME!:
Tuesday’s time trials for the three Wavebuster training groups were a huge success on several levels: 1) Coaches now have accurate times on Wavebuster level swimmers 2) swimmers were able to practice their racing and the ritual involved in racing and 3) parents were able to refresh (or learn) the timing aspects of hosting a meet.
Many of the returning Elite swimmers had not been timed in short course competition since May (and some events, March), 2007. As many Elite swimmers trained and competed over the summer, the time trial times reflected improvement that has occurred since the last SCY competitions.
9 year old Christina Pick led the charge by posting her 1st Junior Olympic qualifying time in the 10 & Under 50 Breast (42.80)!
There were numerous other JO Olympic qualifying times produced. However, all these swimmers either already had qualifying times in those events or the swimmers age up during the season (and thus need to earn JO qualifying times in a older age group).
Swimmers who participated (# in parathesis is number of best Elite SCY best times): Matt Ahlmeyer (4), Michael Alelov (2), Arlynn Baer, Chris Balbo (3), Lindsay Behar (4), Nicole Blum (3), Ryan Buckham (4), Alexa Burkard (2), John Burns, Brannon Cho (1), Drew D’Andrea (2), Jeffrey Dong (1), Alli Dorneo (3), Amy Duren (3), Sam Duren (3), Avinash Duvvuri (2), Krishna Duvvuri (1), Helena Elston (1), Maya Epelbaum (4), Madeleine Faust, Juliet Felsen (2), Emilie Ferguson (3), Andrea Ferrell (3), Spencer Fisch (3), Ariel Gelman (4), Emily Goad (3), Katie Golway (2), Katie Gorman (2), Lydia Gracey (2), Rachel Greene (1), Andre Guacelli (4), Julia Guacelli, Emma Harris (4), Alyssa Hartigan (4), Matt Hong (4), Patrick Hong (4), Elana Horowitz (4), Brent Jones (1), Zackie Katz (2), Eamonn Keenan (4), Morgan Kiley, Sarah Kleppe (1), Regan Kology (1),Patrick Lai (2), Clark LaRaia (3), Isabel LaRaia (3), Aaron Levin (1), Jessie Lowe, Daniela Manzi (1), Katie McGrath, Brendan Miller-Radest (2), Kara Miller-Radest (2), Isabella Morreale (2), Cesar Munoz (2), Madison Munoz, Dan Muro (3), Caroline Nash (3), Rebecca Niccolai (1), Dara O’Gorman (2), Nick Pachiolo (1), Christina Pick (3), Gabrielle Pick (3), Michelle Pick (3), Mikala Quinn (4), Collin Reilly (4), Abigail Rollenhagen (1), Katie Salsano (4), Taylor Savarese (4), Jonathan Scott (2), Andrea Shepard, Jonas Singer (4), Jessica Solodkin (4), Kaitlin Stearns (3), Lindsay Stearns (1), Alex Sudyn (4), Erica Takahashi (3), Lexi Tedesco, Sydney Todd, Rachel Tortorella (4), Caroline Watt (3), Sarah Weinbrom (3), Natalie Wetmore (1), Maggie Woodruff (2), Ryan Wyer (4), James Yoon (4) & Richard Yu (3).
SEPT ATTENDANCE STATS ARE STRONG; 5 TRAINING GROUPS AVERAGING OVER
80% OR HIGHER WAVE GOLDS LEAD WAY WITH 90.0%!!! ATHLETES RECOGNIZED:
Practice attendance is a foundation of improvement. Starting the season with good attendance (and thus, great work habits and a great aerobic base), is the way to faster swimming. During Sept, the Elite Swimmers showed their diligent work ethic by attending practice at an astonishing rate of close to 85% as team!!! The Wavebuster Gold training group leads the outstanding Elite attendance race by averaging, as a training group, 90.07% attendance!!! The Wave Golds are closely followed by the Seniors (86.6%), Wave Blacks (84.0%), Wave Teals (81.03%), the Marlin Teals (80.9%), the Senior Preps (78.8%) and the Marlin Blacks (73.4%).
At the end of the Season Awards Dinner, Elite swimmers with 85% attendance (or greater) will be presented with the Attendance Award. This award, plus attendance requirements for swimmers who want to be promoted, have positively motivated Elite Swimmers to come to practice.

WITH MEETS FAST APPROACHING, SWIMMERS & PARENTS ARE REMINDED
OF
TEAM SUIT, UNIFORM & RELAY POLICIES:
Starting
in two weeks with the BAC dual meets, Elite will begin its competition season
that will run thru the middle of March 2008. Elite teams act as a unit and
follow procedures set forth by their coaches. Elite has several policies all
swimmers and parents need to understand and follow regarding competitions.
Elite Simmers are expected to know and follow these procedures:
1)
Elite has a team suit policy. Each
swimmer is expected to wear their team suit at all non-end of the season
championship meets
Elite swimmers
perform in their team suit until championship season. Each swimmer is provided
a team uniform (t-shirts, sweats and racing caps are in but we are awaiting
delivery of team suit-expected next week prior to the BAC meet. These items
will be distributed to each swimmer at practice to meet). Elite swimmers do NOT
wear technically advanced racing suits at any non-championship meet (with
possible exceptions being a swimmer trying for a state record or for a national
level qualifying standard). Elite coaches believe that the swimmer makes the
suit, rather than the suit making the swimmer. Thus, we hold back using these
types of suits (fastskins, FS-II, aquablades, etc) until our championship
season, when we bring everything together (training, positive mental attitudes,
stroke technique and fast suits). This guarantees that swimmers will be excited
to perform their best when their best is required! (coaches can and will remove
a swimmer from a meet if they are not in the proper team racing attire.
2) At every meet,
wear your correct t-shirt!!
Each swimmer is provided
with a team uniform consisting of two Elite t-shirts, a sweatshirt and a racing
cap. Swimmers are expected to wear the team uniform at the meets (it is the
swimmer’s responsibility to know which t-shirt to wear on which day of the
competition. This information is listed within the meet information of each
meet on the team website. Smart swimmers pack both t-shirts so they can never
be wrong!). Swimmers are expected to wear the t-shirts (to keep warm, and thus
increase the possibility of performing well) at all times at meets when they
are not performing. Thus, Elite swimmers look like a team (psychological
advantage to Elite) and are the best prepared to perform well. Swimmers and
training groups will be penalized if swimmers are not in the team uniform at
the meet.
3)
Any pre-meet relay combination is
subject to change at the meet!!!
At several meets during the season, Elite will enter teams in relays (Fall Festival of X-Cellence Meet being the 1st meet). All swimmers entered in
relays prior to the meet are done so tentatively. This means the coaches will be determining the fastest relays on the day of the meet. Thus, a swimmer
who is tentatively scheduled to perform a relay could be removed and a swimmer who is not listed could be inserted. Changes will be made on the
day of the meet based upon performances at the meet that dictate a change in the relay combination. We want our 4 fastest swimmers to represent
Elite in the each relay (spectacular and mediocre performances will factor into the coaches decision making process!).

POOL DOWN
SITUATION REMINDS US TO CHECK PRACTICE SCHEDULE REGULARLY, LOOK FOR EMAILS,
CALL FRIENDS:
The unfortunate fact of swimming pools is that they break. And usually when it is most inconvenient (like the beginning of the season). Two weeks ago the pool down situation at Newark Academy serves as a reminder that swimmers (not parents) should regularly check the team website and emails in case there is a last minute pool disruption.
If there is a pool disruption & practice is cancelled, all Elite members are requested to reach out to their friends (phone, text, email) to let them know of the situation. Cover your friends back!
OFFICIALS & COMPUTER VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO RUN MEETS:
To effectively run meets, Elite needs a variety of parents to volunteer their time and efforts during these meets. This season, Elite will be strongly encouraging those parents who have an interest to become New Jersey certified officials.
To run New Jersey sanctioned meets, certified officials are a necessity. Currently within New Jersey Swimming, there is a shortage of officials certified. Elite, while having 6 certified is understaffed and thus, under represented officiating meets. In addition, Elite likes to have officials present even when we run our dual meets/intraclub meets, as the officials provide significant feed back as to areas the coaches need to focus upon.
In addition, this year Elite will be building up its volunteers with regards to the electronic running of the meets (touch pads, timing console & processing the data coming thru both into Elite’s computer).
New Officials:
there will be a new officials clinic, hosted by Elite Swim Club and Morris
County Swim Club, at Morristown Beard School on Thursday, October 11 from 7:00
pm to 9:00 pm.
Anyone with interest in either volunteer positions should contact Bill as soon as possible.
SUMMER “20”:
PARENTS NEED TO GET INFO TO BILL:
Last summer, the Elite coaches challenged swimmers in the Wavebuster Teal, Marlin Black and Marlin Teal training groups to add Elite swim practices to their summer regiment. Five workouts for each of these training groups plus a calendar were posted on Elite’s website. Swimmers were challenged to do 20 workouts during the summer and parents were requested to keep tabs of these workouts on the calendar.
Parents of the “stud” swimmers who met the challenge and
completed a minimum of 20 of these workouts are requested to get the calendar
to Bill (by email or place it in Bill’s mailbox) so that Elite can organize and
present the earned rewards. This needs to be done by Friday, Sept 22 (end of
the 1st week of practice for these training groups).
WHEN IN DOUBT, CHECK THE WEBSITE:
If you have questions about Elite, your first source of information is Elite’s website located at eliteswimclub.org. When in doubt, first check the website!!! If you do not see what you need, email Bill at eliteswimclubnj@comcast.net
