OCTOBER PRACTICE SCHEDULE DISRUPTED BY HOLIDAYS AND NEWARK ACADEMY FUNCTIONS:

The practice schedule will be significantly disrupted during the month of October due to the various holidays and Newark Academy functions. During these holidays and functions, Newark Academy is closed and does not allow Elite to practice. When possible, Elite will utilize Morristown-Beard’s pool on these days.

Please pay close attention (starting this Saturday, October 1st) to the changes in practice times and pools listed on the 2 week practice schedule posted on Elite’s website in October.

PARENTS MEETING ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 5TH  AT NA:

Elite will hold an Organizational Meeting for all parents on Wednesday, October 5th at 7:00 pm at Newark Academy.

Elite will formalize a parent’s organization consisting of 6 committees at this meeting. The 6 committees will be: 1) Officials 2) Distance Derby 3) publicity 4) 9 & 10 Silver/Bronze Championships and 5) timers and 6) fundraiser.

During the past few years, Elite has developed into a more competitive and complicated organization. With that development, the need for volunteers grows as Elite continues to strive in its development.

All parents are highly encouraged to come to this meeting and volunteer.

FUNDRAISER FOR KATRINA “SWIM” VICTIMS THIS SUNDAY, OCTOBER 2ND:

Elite will hold a “Relay Elite-a-thon” on Sunday, October 2nd for swimmers in the Gulf Coast Area affected by Hurricane Katrina.

The fundraiser is to be structured as follows: each swimmer in each training group will obtain as many pledges (contributions) as possible. Each training group will swim continuous relays during their Sunday, October 2nd practice time (there will be 2 or 3 continuous relays going on at any one time during practice).

The relay(s) will be continuous as swimmers in the “next” training group time slot will “continue” the relay. Thus, Elite anticipates 7 hours of continuous relays on that day.

In a gesture of community help and in an attempt to raise more money, Elite has invited swimmers from the West Essex YMCA to join Elite in it fundraiser.

Elite will work with New Jersey Swimming and USA Swimming to donate the money raised to swimmers affected by the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.

The fundraiser forms on now posted on the website under “Katrina.”  All swimmers are encouraged to print out the forms and begin getting pledges from parents, grandparents, neighbors and friends!!!!

REGISTRATION FORMS DUE (AS SOON AS POSSIBLE):

On the first day of practice, each Elite swimmer is presented with a folder containing information regarding the 2005-06 Winter Season.

Within the returning swimmer’s folder are: 1) a 2006 New Jersey Swimming Athlete Registration (insurance form)  2) an Elite Membership form (last year’s form) 3) an Elite Code of Conduct form (for Wavebusters and Seniors Only) and 4) if you were a member of another USA Swim Club last season, a Transfer Form.

It is critical that these forms be returned to Bill’s mailbox   as soon as possible so that each Elite swimmer is registered (and thus insured).

SWIM MEETS ON THE HORIZON:

Although training has just started, October brings the 1st swim meets for Elite. The tentative meet schedule has been updated to include start times for those meets where information is currently available.

PARKING AN ISSUE AT NEWARK ACADEMY:

There is a distinct shortage of parking spaces at Newark Academy, especially on weekdays between 5:15 pm and 6:30 pm. Parents are welcome to “drop off” or “pick-up” their swimmers by the field house entrance during this time period if the driver remains in the car. If a parent is coming into the building, they are requested to park in the “upper” lot and walk thru the school to reach the pool.

Please remember to drive slowly thru the parking lots and do not park in the fire lanes, as the Livingston Police will ticket improperly parked cars.
