ELITE NEWS BULLETIN 08-01-05
DART & FRIENDS “HARVEST” MAGICAL PERFORMANCES:
“Ye shall reap what thou shall sew.”
From the seeds planted during the last 15 months, the Elite swimmers competing at the Long Course Junior Olympics this past weekend harvested a fantastic crop of best times and incredible performances during the 3 day meet held at Rutgers University.
Although almost every swimmer performed magnificently, Elite was lead by the extraordinary performance turned in by 14 year old Chris Dart. Chris’s incredible accomplishments were as follows:
1) broke the Boys 13-14 100 meter long course backstroke record in a blistering 1.02.32 time (sub :55 100 yard backstroke?)
2) despite NEVER competing in breaststroke before in a NJ Swimming meet, Chris won both the 100 meter (1.13.39) and the 200 meter breaststroke (2.40.03) events. His come from behind 200 meter victory (approximately a full body length behind at the 150) was just 1 second over the Sectional cut time!!!
3) won the 200 backstroke in a 2.18.92 time- a 4 second drop from his previous best
4) won the 50 free (26.60) despite it being swum at 10:30 pm Saturday night (meet was extremely crowded as New Jersey Swimming’s extraordinary depth was highlighted by the strong number of JO level swimmers) and the 100 free (56.88)
5) won the 200 IM with a near Sectional cut time of 2.16.92 (Sectional cut time being 2.16.59)
6) proving he is human, Chris placed 2nd in both the 100 butterfly (1.01.89) despite a 3+ second drop and the 400 IM (4.51.81-a 16 second drop since January). Despite the 2nd place finish, Dart’s 400 IM time qualifies him for his 2nd Sectional swim next spring.
As a result of all
these accomplishments, Chris earned the prestigious Boys 13-14 Junior Olympic “High Point” Award, with a
total of 174 points out of a possible 180 points!!!!!
Following Chris’s lead were numerous other Elite swimmers:
Austin Meszaros capped an incredible summer season by 1) improving on last week’s Zone qualifying 50 free swim in placing 10th with a 25.93 time (only .5 second from a Sectional time 2) qualifying for his 2nd Zone event in the 100 free with a 57.85 time in the 100 free and 3) dropping a second off of last week’s 200 free time (2.09. 54)
Crissy Condus sparkled by literally destroying her 1500 meter time from 5 weeks ago in churning to a 19.14.86 time. Condus’s drop of 1 minute and 12 seconds moved her up from her last place seed to 22nd (beating 15 swimmers in the field!). Crissy added drops in her 400 free (4.54.35) and 800 meter free (10.04.75).
Although just aging up, Michael Li (11) continued his impressive breaststroke run with an 11th place finish in the 50 breast (40.61), an 8th place finish in the 100 breast (1.28.83) and a 12th place finish in the 200 breast (3.13.36).
Priya Duvvuri flew to a 33.68 time in the Girls 11-12 50 butterfly (best place finisher for an 11 year old) and just missed making Zones with her 9th place finish
Maggie Beaudouin finished her meet with her best swim, a 15th place finish in the Girls 13-14 100 meter back in a 1.14.84 (a two second drop). Maggie also had drops in the 200 back and 200 IM.
Brittany Ross continued her tremendous development by placing 16th in the Girls 13-14 200 meter butterfly (2:40.63) and 17th in the 200 meter breaststroke (3.04.41)
While performing a best time in each of his events, Nick Trojanowski lopped 13 seconds off each of his 400 IM time (5.19.55) & his 1500 meter free (18.51.20) and 6 seconds off his 200 IM (2.30.93).
In her 1st long course championship meet, Carolyn Demeo placed 16th in the Girls 11-12 50 meter back (37.57) and dropped time in her 50 free (31.30), her 100 free (1.09.95) and her 200 back (3.04.52).

PRACTICE OPTIONAL THIS WEEK FOR SENIORS/SENIOR PREPS:
To prepare Austin Meszaros for his Eastern Zones competition next week, Elite will hold practice on the following days: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Monday. All Seniors and Senior Preps who trained with Elite this summer are welcome to participate. Check the website for practice start details.
SEPT JUST AROUND THE CORNER; DRYLAND WORKOUTS ON WEBSITE:
As unbelievable as it may seem, September is really not that far away. Swimmers are reminded of two things:
1) Like last year, Elite will “stagger” the start of practice. The Seniors and Senior Preps will begin Tuesday, September 6 with an organizational meeting to kick off a two week “training camp.” Pool practice will start the very next night as these groups learn and review what “curriculum” will be provided this coming season.
Wave Golds and Wave Blacks will start the following Monday, Sept 12 with a one week training camp. The Seniors and Senior Preps will instruct these groups as to their curriculum.
The Wave Teals, Marlin Blacks and Marlin Teals will begin the following Monday (Sept 19) and Tuesday (Sept 20).
Further information regarding the 1st practices will be emailed in late August.
2) dryland workouts are posted on the website. There are 26 workouts to be done in order (even if you miss a day or two between). An explanation of the exercises are also on the website.
Swimmers who perform these workouts will be in great shape in which to start the winter season!!!!
