DART TO REPRESENT GREAT BRITAIN AT WORLD YOUTH GAMES IN MEXICO THIS WEEK:

            Elite’s Chris Dart will represent Great Britain at the World Youth Games in Monterrey, Mexico, starting Tuesday, July 8. Later this month, Chris will again represent Great Britain in the European Youth Championships to be held in Belgrade, Serbia. Both meets will be held in long course venues.

            Picked based upon his spectacular performance at British Olympic Trials in early April to represent Great Britain at the Junior National level (Chris is a dual citizen of GB & the USA), Chris will participate individually in the prestigious WYG meet in both the 50 meter and 100 meter backstroke events. The meet has prelims, semi-finals and finals (similar to the USA Olympic Trials set-up). Chris is also expected to compete in one of the two GB medley relays (at the moment, Chris is the 2nd fastest GB backstroker. His new GB backstroke nemesis is Christopher Walker-Hebbon).

            Interestingly, Chris’s best event may be the 50 meter back. While the 50 meter back is a staple event in international competition, it is a rarely competed event in the USA. Since Chris’s racing forte is all out sprinting and then holding on, the 50 meter event will prove an interesting event for Chris. At the moment, Chris does not have an accurate 50 meter time, as his fastest time would be his 27.32 split in the front end of the British Olympic Trials 100 back. This split is not considered accurate as Chris did a back turn (which includes the free pull) into the wall.

WINTER 2008-09 ROSTER DEPOSITS DUE NEXT WEDNESDAY (JULY 16);

47 HAVE COMMITTED & ARE NOW LISTED ON WEBSITE UNDER TRYOUTS:

            Swimmers who plan on training with Elite for the Winter 2008-09 Season need to have their $300 deposit received by Bill by Wednesday, July16 to reserve their roster space. The updated list of 47 swimmers who have committed to Elite for next winter is now posted on the team website under Tryouts.

            Receipt of the deposit will trigger the purchase of the team uniform (suit, t-shirts, sweatshirts, racing caps) in late July for each registered individual. This procedure also allows Elite to understand how many openings there are per training group prior to the July 22nd tryouts.

Those swimmers who fail to have their deposit in by July 16 but are still interested in training with Elite will need to tryout for Elite at one of the two tryouts (Tuesday, July 22 or Tuesday, September 2). Depending on the numbers within each training group, there is no guarantee that roster spaces will be available at those dates.
