Taking complete advantage of their last long course meter opportunity prior to summer championships, Elite Swimmers were simply awesome this past weekend at Summer Sizzle, held at Rutgers University Friday thru Sunday. As a team, Elite scored 1080 points (with 75% of its relays not participating!) to place 7th out of 26 teams! Last year, Elite scored 712.5 (almost 50% more than this year!).

In his tune-up prior to World Youth Games (Mexico) and Eurporean Junior Championships (Serbia), Chris Dart won all 3 events he swam (100 back, 200 back and 50 free). Chris will be leaving later this week for Mexico as he represents Great Britain at the Junior National level.

14 year old Priya Duvvuri last swim & in her 15th swim of the meet, won the 13-14 Girls 100 butterfly in 1.08.16! Priya’s time was less than .5 off a Sectional qualifying time! Priya also placed 2nd in the 100 back (1.12.22), 7th in the 200 IM (2.38.77) and 14th in the 400 IM (5.37.74).

Eight different swimmers posted 9 new Eastern Zone qualifying times!! Elite now has 16 swimmers qualified for 51 events!!! While 4 swimmers (Dart, Ricky Martin, Alex Morrison & Michael Strand) are apt not to participate, this still means that 12 Elite Swimmers (so far) will represent Elite at this prestigious meet in Maryland this August!!!

12 year old Lindsay Stearns, waiting out a 2 hour rain delay on Sunday pm, churned to a 2nd place, 2.43.38 time in the 200 butterfly (one of the sports more grueling events)!  Stearns also placed 2nd in the 100 butterfly in a 1.16.34 time! 10 year old Kaitlin Stearns added her 6th Zone qualifying time to her resume, with her 5.28.14 & 3rd place performance in the 400 free. Kaitlin also placed 3rd in the 100 back (1.26.16), 200 free (2.33.93), and 4th in both the 50 free (32.70) and 50 back (39.02).

12 year old Jeffrey Dong qualified twice in one race: in his Zone qualifying 200 breast (3.05.68), Jeffrey also qualified in the front 100 meters with his opening split. Proving it was not a fluke, Dong followed up the following day with a Zone (and faster swim) in the 100 breast (1.25.04). Dong also added 5 JO cuts this weekend.

10 year old Chris Balbo, hovering near Zone qualifying times in several events during the weekend (400 free, 200 free), also out waited the Sunday rain delay and crushed the Zone qualifying time by 3 seconds in the 100 butterfly (1.27.75) in placing 3rd in the event. Balbo also placed 2nd in the 400 Free (5.44.97) & 5th in 3 separate events: 100 free (1.15.55), 200 IM (3.10. 81), 200 free (2.42.42).

12 year old Alli  Dorneo used a front leg Medley Relay swim to qualify for the 50 back in a 35.70. Literally moments later, Dorneo placed 6th in the 50 back with a slightly slower 36.55 time. 14 year old Michael Li posted his 2nd Zone cut this season with a 2.49.94 & 14th place finish in the 200 breast.

14 year old Ryan Wyer rocketed to a 3rd place finish in the 50 Free in finals with a Zone qualifying 27.01 time. 11 year old Zachie Katz’s 50 breast swim of 38.72 was a Zone qualifier.

12 year old Regan Kology continued her fabulous swimming by placing 2nd in the 400 Free (4.54.31) 3rd in the 50 free (30.15) & 3rd in the 100 free (1.05.79).

15 year old Michael Strand continues to impress in all areas (finaling in separate 5 events) and placing 3rd in both the 100 (1.01.56) and 200 (2.15.19) backstrokes.

As noted in the headline, 16 separate swimmers added 57 additional Junior Olympic swims. Elite now has 33 individuals qualified for 201 events (remember, summer JO qualifing times are harder than Winter, as there is 50% less capacity at the meet).
