ELITE NEWS BULLETIN               6-23-08

RACING THIS WEEKEND:

SUMMER SIZZLE: ADDITIONAL ENTRIES ACCEPTED, PLEASE RECHECK YOUR EVENTS; INTRACLUB MEET: MINING FOR SILVER; WE NEED TIMERS!!:

All Elite Wavebusters and Seniors will race this coming weekend, either at Summer Sizzle or at the Intraclub Meet.

With regards to the Summer Sizzle meet, the meet director has accepted some additional entries from Elite based upon performances at Memorial Day Meet and at Heat Madness. Please re-check your entries to confirm if/when you are competing.

With regards to the Intraclub Meet, all swimmers not entered in the Summer Sizzle Meet on Sunday have been entered in this SCM meet. The event entry strategy for this meet is as follows: we are looking for as many Silver qualifying times as possible. The reason behind this is simple: the coaches want the swimmers to have as many chances to qualify for Junior Olympics as possible at their Silver and Silver/Bronze Championships. And to help this effort, each swimmer has been entered in 4 events.

In running the Intraclub meet (and since many swimmers/parents will be at the Sizzle meet), timing volunteers are requested to e-mail Mary D'Altrui

(mdaltrui@guideline.com ) as soon as possible so Mary can coordinate the timing for the Intraclub meet (Carolyn Balbo will be coordinating the timing for Sizzle). Remember, since we are the only team at the Intraclub meet, we will need a minimum of 13 timers and could use even more so we can rotate timers out. The meet should not last more than 2.5 hours.

PREVIEW OF BIGGEST MEET OF NEXT 4 YEARS:

USA OLYMPIC TRIALS START LATE THIS WEEK!!!

The road to the 2008 Bejing Olympics travels thru Omaha, Nebraska starting this Sunday, June 29 with the USA Olympic Trials as center stage.

Known as the most intense meet held (since there are only 2 winners per event-everyone else goes home disappointed) worldwide (even more intense that the Olympics), the USA Olympic Trials looks to be a spectacular event again this year. Natalie Coughlin, Ryan Lochte, NJ’s Rebecca Soni, Aaron Piersol, Ian Crocker and that fellow named Michael are all at the top of their game and should provide incredible performances.

Although qualified to compete, Elite’s own Chris Dart is no longer eligible to compete for the USA since he has agreed to represent Great Britain this summer on a Junior National Level. Only swimmers eligible to represent USA can compete at USA Olympic Trials.

All the action will be televised each night, starting Sunday June 29 thru Sunday, July 6 from 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm on either NBC or USA networks. How about an Elite Trials Party or two for your friends??

WINTER PRACTICE SCHEDULE SAME NEXT YEAR AS LAST YEAR:

The Winter 2008-09 practice schedule will be identical as last year’s schedule (with one exception: the Wave Golds will practice on Saturday morning at MBS with the Seniors/Senior Preps).

SUMMER SCHEDULE STARTS TODAY MONDAY (JUNE 23) ;

The summer practice schedule starts next Monday, June 23. This week, practices are offered at both Springfield in the am and Morristown-Beard in the pm. Due to the limited space and expected crowded conditions, no doubles and no make-ups are allowed.

PHASE 2 OF “OPERATION THRIVAL:  PHASE 2: SUMMER TEAM CLINICS:

In order to help swimmers and parents who are interested in Elite, the team has added a separate “Interested Swimmer” homepage to help provide information an Interested Swimmer would need in making a choice to train at Elite.

With the need to draw new and beginner level swimmers into the program (so we can develop them like we have with our current 9-12 year olds), Bill has dubbed this effort “Operation Thrival.” Combining the words thrive and survival aptly gives the effort the right label; for Elite to survive but also to continue to thrive, the club needs new blood at the lowest levels of the program.

In addition to the new webpage, Bill will be providing clinics to local swim clubs this summer.
