“HEAT WINNER” AWARDS,
JUNIOR OLYMPIC CUT TIMES ACHIEVED IN “MADNESS” BIG POOL:
On Saturday, the Elite Seniors, Senior Preps, Wave Golds & Wave Blacks competed in their 1st “Long Course” competition of the summer season at Heat Madness, held at Rutgers University.
For many in the Wave Golds and Wave Blacks, this was their very first competition in the “Big Pool,” the 50 Long Course Meter venue that most international competitions, including the Olympics, are held in. Elite’s results were extremely impressive (as a play on the phrase “heat madness,” the host team Scarlet Aquatic Club awarded gag gifts to each “heat” winner such as baseball caps, lais, towels, bouncey balls, candy. By the end of the meet, Elite swimmers had earned a variety of gifts by winning their heats!).
Elite swimmers from every age group had standout performances, among them:
1) flexing his reknown racing muscles, 15 year old Chris Dart won all 3 of his events (200 back, 100 breast and 100 free) in the Senior Boys Division.
2) Continuing her phenomenal development, Priva Duvvuri won the 11-12 Girls 50 back with a Zone Qualifying Cut time of 35.67 and placed 5th in the 200 IM with a 13 second drop (from last summer’s time)
3) 13 year old Elite newcomer Michael Strand demonstrated his swimming prowess by placing 2nd in the 200 backstroke (with a Zone Qualifying time), 3rd place in the 100 free and 4th in the 400 free
4) 10 year old Courtney Brosnan recovered beautifully from being disqualifed (moving on the start) in the 100 free (her time was 8 seconds under the JO Qualifying time) by placing 2nd in the 50 back and 3rd in the 50 fly-both JO cut times.
5) 12 year old Michael Li placed 3rd twice (100 breast & 50 fly) and 5th (50 back). All of Michael’s times were JO cuts.
6) 14 year old Venkatesh Duvvuri won the grueling 200 fly event
7) Scorching hot 10 year old Lindsay Stearns placed 2nd (just ahead of Brosnan) in the 50 fly event and 9th in the 200 IM, botht Junior Olympic qualifying times
8) Katie Gorman, who is also on (racing) fire, earned Junior Olympic times in both the 10 & Under 100 breast and the 50 fly events
9) Cassandra Farnow placed 3rd in the Girls 13-14 200 backstroke with a JO time. Unfortunately, Cassandra ages up prior to JO’s.
10) 12 year old Ali Morreale continued her fabulous swimming making two JO cut times by placing 5th in the 50 back, 9th in the 100 breast. Ali also ages up prior to JO’s
11) Regan Kology, age 10, earned a JO qualifying time in the 100 free. Kology also dropped nearly 5 seconds in her 50 fly swim
12) Greg Keiser sculled to a JO time in the 11-12 Boys 100 breast
13) Maggie Woodruff, who turns 11 later this month, earned a Junior Olympic time in the 10 & Under Age Group in her 100 free
14) 15 year old Brittany Ross finished 4th in the Seniors 200 butterfly

As hard as this may be to believe, this is the last of 10 weeks of Spring 2006 training for the Wave Teals, Marlin Blacks and Marlin Teals. The last day of the session is this Friday, June 9.
The Seniors, the Senior Preps, the Wave Golds and the Wave Blacks will continue their training thru their summer competition (approximately August 1st).
The Wave Golds and Wave Blacks will start their summer session weekday practices Monday, June 13 at Morristown-Beard. Please note that the practice times for Monday, June 13 and Tuesday, June 14 are different than the rest of the summer.
Information regarding the Winter 2006-07 Session will be mailed out this week. Those few Wave Teals who, as a result of their diligent training this spring, will be promoted into the Wave Blacks are invited (and expected to) train with Elite this summer at Morristown-Beard.
Swimmers who joined Elite this spring will need to tryout again for Elite this summer. Tryouts for the Winter 2006-07 Team will be held Monday, July 24 at Morristown-Beard from 4 pm to 6 pm.
New Jersey Swimming has constructed its tentative meet schedule for the Winter 2006-07 Season. From that tentative meet schedule, Elite has constructed its tentative meet scheudle and has now posted its schedule on the website under Meet Schedule.
With regards to the New Jersey Swimming Meets, it can be assumed that these dates are fixed (teams were required to bid on meets and secure pools prior to their bids).
With regards to Elite’s Intraclub and Dual meet schedule, it can be assumed that there will be a meet on the weekend indicated. Elite has already reached out to several teams regarding dual meets and the specific days and start times are still in play.
For the Age Groupers (Wavebusters and Marlins), Elite is looking to find more yard dual meets next season to provide more opportunities for swimmers to make cut times.
LCM & SCY TIME STANDARDS POSTED ON WEBSITE:
Posted on the website are the new Long Course Meter (LCM) qualifying times for the Summer 2006 Competition and the new Short Course Yard (SCY) qualifying times for the Winter 2006-07 Competition.
Please note that for an unexplained reason, NJ Swimming has not provided cut times differentiating between Silver and Bronze for LCM competition this summer for the 10 & Unders and 11-12 Age Groups. The 12 & Under Silver Championships held Saturday, July 15 & Sunday, July 16 will be for swimmers who have not earned Junior Olympic times (it will be a Silver/Bronze meet with no “Bronze” cut times).
Parents of several training groups have approached Leighann regarding having party celebrating the end of the Spring Session. As along as the parents coordinate with their training group coach, plan and execute the party and clean-up, each training group is encouraged to have such a party.
The Wave Blacks are tentatively planning an end of the Spring Session party on Friday, June 9th (the last day of spring session). Parents interested in helping should see Leighann.
