JUNIOR OLYMPIC CUTS FALL LIKE RAINDROPS FOR ELITE 12 & UNDERS!!!:

Participating in the first long course meters meet of the New Jersey Swimming Summer Season, the fifteen 12 & Under Elite swimmers who represented Elite at the prestigious Memorial Day Invitational Meet held at Rutgers University sent this message to New Jersey Swimming: Bring On Long Course!!!

During the 2 day meet and in only 62 swims, Elite swimmers produced 34 Junior Olympic performances (not including 2 swims where swimmers were disqualified yet were under the qualifying times). In addition, 2 additional swims missed by just .5 hundreds of a second. And this barrage of qualifying times occurred in May with virtually the entire training and racing summer season to go!!!

Leading the Elite were 10 year olds Kara Miller-Radest, Jeffrey Dong and Juliet Felsen. Miller-Radest placed 2nd in the grueling 100 meter fly (1.36.08) and 3rd in the 50 butterfly (39.47). Each of her 4 swims were Junior Olympic cuts. Dong placed 3rd twice: 50 meter back (41.94) and 100 meter breaststroke (1.41.01).  In each of his 6 swims, Dong performed at the Junior Olympic level. Unfortunately, both Kara and Jeffrey turn 11 prior to Junior Olympics.

Felsen also had 6 JO times in 6 competitions. Her highest place was 5th in the 50 meter breast (46.91) while she placed 6th in both the 100 meter breast (1.43.21) and 100 meter free (1.18.62).

Qualifying for JO’s in 3 events were 11 year old Regan Kology & 12 year old Brannon Cho. Despite aging up just this past week, Kology rocked in the 50 meter free (31.89), the 200 meter free (2.33.06) and the 400 meter free (5.26.39). Cho posted JO times in the 50 meter back (37.88), the 100 back (1.20.94) and the 200 meter IM (2.54.37).

Qualifying for JO’s in two events were 9 year old Aaron Levin, 13 year old Michael Li, 10 year old Michelle Pick, 9 year old Kaitlin Stearns & 11 year old Lindsay Stearns. Levin, who only competed one day due to a conflict, posted JO times in the 50 meter free (34.91) and in the 100 back (1.33.28). Li, who just aged up, was under the qualifying times in both his breaststroke events: 100 meter (1.23.89) and 200 meter (3.00.16). Pick churned to JO times in both her butterfly swims: 50 meter (42.56) and 100 meter (1.38.94). Kaitlin Stearns was under the qualifying times in the 50 meter free (35.23) and the 50 meter back (43.61) while her older sister hit the jackpot in her butterfly events: 50 meter (35.26) and the 100 meter (1.19.93).

Also adding JO times were: 12 year old Krishna Duvvuri-50 meter butterfly (36.73) and 11 year old Katie Gorman –50 meter breast (41.45)

WINTER 2007-08 PRACTICE SCHEDULE TO CHANGE; MORE TIME SLOTTED FOR MARLINS & WAVE GOLDS; SCHEDULE POSTED UNDER PRACTICE SCHEDULE:

In its never ending pursuit of using the allotted pool time as efficiently as possible, Elite will have a new practice schedule starting September 2008. The practice schedule is now posted on the team website under Practice Schedule. The schedule changes allows Elite to offer significantly more pool time to 3 of the 5 Age Group Training Groups training at Newark Academy.

The Marlin Blacks and the Marlin Teals will now practice at the same time on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. In keeping with its policy of never having more than 36 swimmers in a training group, the total number of swimmers between the two groups will never exceed 36. By using the pool for both training groups simultaneously, both groups will be offered 4 practices a week for a total of 3.75 hours. In addition, the Marlins will start 15 minutes early from Sept thru November 15 (5:00 pm) so they can get a full hour of practice when the pool is available.

The Wavebuster Gold training group will also gain practice time. Currently, the Wave Golds have 10 hours of practice a week. Under the current schedule, when a swimmer earns a promotion from the Wave Golds to the Senior Preps, the amount of practice time jumps to 17 hours a week. The change in the practice schedule will better prepare the Wave Golds for this expanded practice time as a Senior Prep.
