KNOCKING OFF SPRINTING COBWEBS, AGE GROUPERS RETURN TO RACING
IN LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP MEET:
The Elite Age Groupers returned to racing this past Sunday by participating in the League Championships held at the Union Boys and Girls Club and hosted by the Tidal Wave Swim Club. Clubs are invited to this meet if they participated in dual meets amongst themselves during the winter season.
As training cycles go, this meet was obviously held early during the cycle. During the early portion of the training cycle, Elite focuses on both stroke technique and building an aerobic base (distance focus). As expected, the “distance” events (100’s and 200 IM’s) saw the majority of time drops while the sprint events (50’s) times were generally a bit slower. This is expected at this time of the season. As Elite transitions into sprinting later in the training cycle plus with more meets later in the season, swimmers will be expected to drop both their distance and sprint event times.
Elite was lead by 10 year old Regan Kology, 8 year old Christina Pick & Lexi Tedesco. All three placed 1st in two events and 2nd in their third event.
Kology lead the field in the Girls 9–10 100 yard IM (1.15.59) and the 50 yard fly (34.90). Ironically, Kology posted her only best career time in the
one event she did not win: the 50 yard back (36.76).
Pick won both the Girls 8 & U 50 yard free (36.46) and the 50 yard back (40.16). Pick also churned to a 2nd place in the 50 yard fly (41.30).
Tedesco, coming off a shoulder injury, won the Girls 15 & O 100 yard free (1.07.26) and the 100 yard breast (1.29.43). Tedesco placed 2nd in the 100 yard back (1.17.24).
Also swimming well were:
Krishna Duvvuri, who won the Boys 11-12 50 yard butterfly (32.13)
Brandon King, who placed 2nd in both the Boys 15 & O 100 yard breast (1.20.78) & the 100 yard fly (1.12.25). King also placed 3rd in the 100 free (1.03.00).
Aaron Levin, who placed 2nd in the Boys 9-10 50 yard free (32.21) and 3rd in the 100 yard IM (1.22.36).
Emmie Lai, who splashed to a 2nd place finish in the Girls 13-14 100 yard fly (1.09.81).
Brannon Cho, who cruised to two 3rd place finishes in the Boys 11-12 50 Free (29.49) and the 50 yard breast (38.81).
Katie Gorman, who also cruised to two 3rd place finishes in the Girls 11-12 50 yard Free (29.18) and he 50 yard fly (33.38).
Kara Miller-Radest, who placed 3rd in the Girls 9-10 100 yard IM (1.24.12).

WINTER 2007-08 PRACTICE SCHEDULE TO
CHANGE; MORE TIME SLOTTED FOR MARLINS & WAVE GOLDS; SCHEDULE POSTED UNDER
PRACTICE SCHEDULE:
In its never ending pursuit of using the allotted pool time as efficiently as possible, Elite will have a new practice schedule starting September 2008. The practice schedule is now posted on the team website under Practice Schedule. The schedule changes allows Elite to offer significantly more pool time to 3 of the 5 Age Group Training Groups training at Newark Academy.
The Marlin Blacks and the Marlin Teals will now practice at the same time on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. In keeping with its policy of never having more than 36 swimmers in a training group, the total number of swimmers between the two groups will never exceed 36. By using the pool for both training groups simultaneously, both groups will be offered 4 practices a week for a total of 3.75 hours. In addition, the Marlins will start 15 minutes early from Sept thru November 15 (5:00 pm) so they can get a full hour of practice when the pool is available.
The
Wavebuster Gold training group will also gain practice time. Currently, the
Wave Golds have 10 hours of practice a week. Under the current schedule, when a
swimmer earns a promotion from the Wave Golds to the Senior Preps, the amount
of practice time jumps to 17 hours a week. The change in the practice schedule
will better prepare the Wave Golds for this expanded practice time as a Senior
Prep.
