SPRING SESSION 2007 BEGINS TRAINING CYCLE ONCE AGAIN;

SENIORS, SENIOR PREPS HAVE MEETINGS THIS WEEK:

            Elite’s one year training cycle in its preparation for its February/March 2008 Championship Meets begins Monday, April 2.

            For the Marlin Teals & the Marlin Blacks, the Spring Session will last until Friday, June 8th. This summer, these swimmers are highly encouraged to swim this summer with their summer swim clubs.

            For the Wave Teals, Elite has found practice time this summer at Morristown-Beard School. These practices will be optional this summer. The practice schedule is posted on the website.

            For the Wave Blacks, Wave Golds, Senior Preps and Seniors, the Spring/Summer Session will continue until the last day of Silvers, Junior Olympics, Zones or Junior Nationals, depending on one’s level of competition.

            The Seniors and Senior Preps will have a formal meeting to start their season off. The Seniors meeting is Wednesday and the Senior Preps meeting is Thursday. All swimmers are expected to attend. The meetings should each last about an hour.

In a general sense, each training group can expect significant work on stroke mechanics this spring. As the session nears its conclusion, emphasize will move towards more conditioning work which, coupled with improved technique, will give our swimmers the tools for successful summer competitions.

DART, ROSS, MARTIN & KOLOGY EXCEL IN POST SEASON COMPETITION:

            Four Elite swimmers extended their seasons by excelling thru the season. All four finished the season with at least one best time, adding to their tremendous seasons!!

            Chris Dart competed in the British Long Course Nationals in Manchester, England in Elite’s first international competition. While Chris did not swim up to his expectations (which are high!), he did finish with two best times: 54.90 in the 100 LCM free and 1.00.13 in the 100 LCM butterfly. Chris also placed 7th in the 100 LCM back Juniors competition.

            Brittany Ross, Ricky Martin & Regan Kology, based upon their fabulous performances at Junior Olympics, were chosen to represent New Jersey Swimming at the Eastern Zones Championships (an all-star meet pitting NJ Swimming verses other LSCs such as Virginia, New England, Metropolitan and Mid-Atlantic Swimming).

             Ross finished her season by placing 7th in the 200 yard butterfly with a personal best 2.15.26. Ross also added a best in the 100 back (1.06.06).

            Martin continued to chip away at his 50 Free time, ending with a blistering 22.64 time, good enough for 6th place. This time is only 15 hundreds of a second over a Sectional qualifying time!!!

            Kology dropped 4 seconds in her 500 free time in placing 10th overall. Kology’s time is 20 seconds faster than any other 9-10 Elite female swimmer has ever swum (team mate Andrea Shepard posted the 2nd fastest Elite time this year)!!

PARKING AN ISSUE AT NEWARK ACADEMY:

            As we head into the Spring 2007 Session, parents are reminded that there is a distinct shortage of parking spaces at Newark Academy, especially on weekdays between 5:15 pm and 6:30 pm. Parents are welcome to “drop off” or “pick-up” their swimmers by the field house entrance during this time period if the driver remains in the car. If a parent is coming into the building, they are requested to park in the “upper” lot and walk thru the school to reach the pool.

            Please remember to drive slowly thru the parking lots and do not park in the fire lanes, as the Livingston Police will ticket improperly parked cars.

SCHOLAR/ATHLETE AWARD APPLICATION TO BE POSTED THIS WEEK:

The Scholar/Athlete Award Application, which will address the age-up situation, will be posted on the website this week. Swimmers are to fill out the application and get it to Bill (place it in the mailbox or mail it to Bill).
