Parents Attend “College Nite”; Information Exchanged Summer Session Information Posted Summer Competition Coming Into Focus Elite & Madison Community Pool to Host Summer Meets Parents of Senior & Senior Prep: Please Be on Time to Pick Up Swimmers Practice Schedule Changes Practice Schedule this Week ![]() BIG WEEKEND COMING UP: CHARITY SWIM ON SATURDAY, MEET ON SUNDAY Swim Meet: All Marlin Teals, Marlin Blacks and Wavebuster Teals are entered in the New Jersey Swim League Championships to be held this Sunday, May 22 at Union Boys & Girls Club in Union, New Jersey. Information regarding the entries, session times & directions has been posted on Elite’s website under “Meets.” If you are unable to attend the meet, you are required to send an email (or write a note) to Bill. Swimmers “new” to Elite this spring should wear a dark suit, if possible, along with an Elite cap. All other team members should wear their Elite suits, t-shirts and racing caps. 4th Annual “ELITE-A-THON” The 4rd annual “Elite-a-thon” will be held this coming Saturday (May 21st) from 4 pm-6 pm at Morristown-Beard. Information regarding the pledges and procedures was emailed this past week. This information is posted on the Elite website. Like all past “Elite-a-thons,” this year’s event will be structured so each indvidual participating will be raising money for the “charity of their choice”. A suggestion list of charities has accompanied the information provided by Senior Will Peters, who is the creator of this exciting and rewarding function. In a tradition begun last year, this year Bill will swim approximately 2000 yards to raise money for Our House Foundation. Founded in 1980, Our House is a public, non-profit organization that provides residential, employment, social and recreational programs for adults and adolescents with developmental and learning disabilities. Our house currently supports 6 group homes, 4 sets of supervised apartments and 8 supported living apartments. Last year, Bill struggled (to the enjoyment/amusement) of Elite swimmers & parents) thru 1500 yards of swimming. This year Bill is looking to top that number and he is hoping each Elite swimmer will contribute a minimum $1 of their own money towards his effort/struggle. Bill will post his sign-up sheet at Newark Academy for all those who wish to pledge their support of his efforts. ![]() PARENTS ATTEND “COLLEGE NITE”; Obviously hitting on an important concern of parents, the Elite sponsored “College Night” held Monday, May 9 was attended by 19 inquistive parents. Bill provided insight into the “swim piece” of college hunting; pointing out that small Division I and most Division III schools provide an excellent opportunity for swimmers to compete at the collegiate level. Students/swimmers were urged to “do their homework” to collect the data available on college websites as to the level of competition each school and conference provides prior to contacting the college coach. Margery Slonaker of Best Foot Forward provided insight into the “academic” and site inspection piece of college hunting. Margery gave a list of things for students/ swimmers should consider when looking at a school and its swim program. Parents were urged to provide guidance in the process of college hunting but to insist that the real work be done by the student/swimmer. Parents are urged to check out Margery’s website at bestftforward.com. Parents of swimmers/athletes whom have already graduated also offered their insight into the process and their impressions. ![]() SUMMER SESSION INFORMATION POSTED Information regarding Elite’s Summer 2005 Session has been posted on the website. The tentative schedule for Seniors and Senior Preps is for Elite to start Saturday, June 11 at Springfield. “Doubles” will start the following Monday, June 13 at Springfield in the am and Morristown-Beard in the pm. Swimmers promoted this spring into Seniors, Senior Preps, the Wave Gold and Wave Black groups are expected to train with Elite this summer (remember it was a condition of swimmer excepting the invitation to train with the new training group). Below is the tentative schedule (please note that only current Wave Blacks, Wave Golds, Senior Preps and Seniors will be entered into these meets-there is no formal training or competition for Elite Wave Teals, Marlin Blacks or Marlin Teals who should train with their summer clubs). Heat Madness: All Elite Seniors, Senior Preps and Wave Golds will compete in this one-day meet on Sunday, June 5 at Rutgers University. Because the meet is only one day and is long course, there is a limited amount of events offered. Meet entries and information are posted on the website. X-Celence: All Elite Seniors, Senior Preps, Wave Golds and Wave Blacks will compete in this two-day long course meet held Saturday, June 18 & Sunday, June 19 at Princeton University. Because this is a “new” long course meet, the slower cut times allow for all levels of Elite swimmers to compete. In addition, Princeton University’s pool now boasts a state of the art “Diamond-Vision” scoreboard!!! Entries and meet information are posted. Summer Sizzle: The most prestigious and competitive meet of the summer season, Elite has entered 7 qualifying swimmers into this meet held at Rutgers University. The meet will be held Friday, June 25 thru Sunday, June 27. Entries and meet information are posted on the website. Fast Factor Challenge I: As previously announced Elite, in conjunction with Madison Community Pool, will be hosting a 12 & Under New Jersey Swimming sanctioned meet on Saturday, July 9 at the Madison Community Pool. This will be the only New Jersey Swimming meet held “outdoors” this summer (and the first in almost 10 years!!). All Elite Wavebuster Golds and Wavebuster Blacks, whom are 12 & Under will be entered in this meet. Meet information and entries will be posted within the next two weeks. Parents of those Elite swimmers participating will be asked to volunteer their services to time, marshall, etc. 12 & Unders Silver/Bronze Long Course Championships: Due to the increased participation in summer meets, New Jersey Swimming has gone to a Silver/Bronze format in an attempt to accommodate as many swimmers as possible. The 12 & Under Silver/Bronze Long Course Championship will be held Saturday, July 16 & Sunday, July 17 at Rutgers University. All Elite Wave Golds and Wave Blacks training with Elite this summer will be entered into this meet. 13 & Older Silver/Bronze Long Course Championships: The 13 & Under Silver/Bronze Long Course Championship will be held Saturday, July 23 & Sunday, July 24 at Rutgers University. All Elite swimmers training with Elite this summer will be entered into this meet. Long Course Junior Olympics: All those Elite swimmers whom have qualified for long course Junior Olympics thru their summer 2005 competition will be entered into JO’s, to be held Friday, July 29 thru Sunday, July 31 at Rutgers. Eastern Long Course Zones: Any Elite swimmer who has qualified to represent New Jersey Swimming in the Eastern Zones Meet will be highly encouraged to apply for this prestigious meet. In the summer, “Zone” teams are fielded by long course qualifying times. This summer’s Eastern Long Course Zones meet will be held in Buffalo, New York from Wednesday, August 10 thru Saturday, August 13. ![]() ELITE & MADISON COMMUNITY POOL TO HOST SUMMER MEETS The Elite Swim Club and the Madison Community Pool (“McP”) will host two separate swim meets this summer during the weekend of Saturday, July 9th and Sunday, July 10th. Believing that the local area swimmers need more opportunities to compete against higher level competition during the summer months, Elite and McP have come up with a unique formula to provide that competition. On Saturday morning July 9th, Elite, McP & New Jersey Swimming will host a 12 & Under New Jersey Swimming sanctioned swim meet at the Madison Community Pool (located at Rosedale Avenue at Parkside-just off Route 124-Main Street Madison). This meet will be held solely for swimmers currently registered with New Jersey Swimming (all Elite swimmers are so registered). All Elite Wave Golds and Wave Blacks whom are 12 & Under and whom are training with Elite this summer will be entered in this meet by Bill. Those Elite swimmers who are not training with Elite but would like to compete in this meet will need to contact Bill to enter (and pay the required entry fee). On Sunday morning July 10th, Elite and McP will host a meet for 12 & Unders for all swimmers participating in summer leagues. All Elite swimmers will be encouraged to enter this meet thru their summer league teams. The entry deadlines for both meets is Wednesday, June 29. Meet information on both meets will be posted shortly on Elite’s website. All 12 & Under Elite swimmers are encouraged to participate in each meet! There is nothing in this world like swimming fast outdoors!!!! ![]() PARENTS OF SENIOR & SENIOR PREP: PLEASE BE ON TIME TO PICK UP SWIMMERS During the last two weeks, there have been almost nightly incidents where rides to pick up Senior and Senior Prep swimmers at Newark Academy or Morristown-Beard have arrived 15 to 45 minutes after practice has concluded. For the safety of the swimmers, Elite has a policy of a coach remaining at the pool until the last swimmer is picked up. The coaches provide this as a courtesy (and are not paid for their added time) and the nightly occurance of this situation is taking advantage of the good nature of the coaches. The coaches request (and appreciate) the parents making a best effort to be on time when picking up your swimmers at night. ![]() PRACTICE SCHEDULE CHANGES The following are the anticipated practice schedule changes mid/late May: 1) Friday, May 27 (Memorial Day Weekend): No practice for any training group 2) Saturday, May 28 (Memorial Day Weekend): Practice for the Seniors & Senior Preps only: 8:00 am to 11:00 am.
