TODAY IS LITERALLY “A BRAND NEW DAY”

Today, Elite will begin this year’s one year training cycle in its preparation for its February/March 2006 Championship Meets.

Preparation for this spring’s training session actually began last week with four Training Group Organizational Meetings (Seniors, Senior Preps, Wavebuster Golds and Wavebuster Blacks). These meetings set out for each training group what the swimmers can expect to cover and focus on during this spring’s training session.

In a general sense, each training group can expect significant work on stroke mechanics this spring. As the session nears its conclusion, emphasize will move towards more conditioning work which, coupled with improved technique, will give our swimmers the tools for successful summer competitions.

ELITE PARTIES HARD;
SAYS GOODBYE TO SENIOR-SENIORS

Yesterday, Elite held its 10th annual End of the Season Banquet Extravaganiza at the Hanover Marriott in Whippany, New Jersey. Approximately 350 members of the Elite family joined in the celebration.

Participants were entertained with an attendance award ceremony, 20-minute slide show, dancing, speeches and a three course dinner.

Following the Elite tradition, Bill bade goodbye to the Senior-Seniors (seniors who are Seniors in high school) by telling antidotes, career highlights and proud moments.

Those whom are interested in purchasing a CD of the slide show presentation should email Bill by Monday, April 18 to reserve a copy. Cost of the slide show CD is $15.

TRYOUTS YIELD 20 NEW SWIMMERS;
THREE POSSIBLE NEW SENIORS

Twenty swimmers have been accepted into Elite by reason of this past week’s tryouts. Held over three days at Newark Academy, the tryouts saw 35 youngsters demonstrate their swimming abilities. Plus, 3 swimmers of Senior training caliber have indicated they will be transfering to Elite this spring. In addition to these 3, several other high caliber swimmers have indicated an interest in training with Elite.

The following swimmers will be joining Elite starting April 4, the start of the spring session:

Marlin Teals: Daniel DeMeo, Parker Dixon, Dominque Gordon, Andre Guacelli, Julia Guacelli, Gabrielle Pick & Michelle Pick

Marlin Blacks: Ethan Cohen, Donna Manno, Julia Muro, Dante Pasquale, Collin Reilly, Owen Schumacher & Katherine Tsang

Wavebuster Teals: Clarice Davey, Maddy Schumacher, Michael Wang

Wavebuster Blacks: Nicholas DiGiacomo, Emily Tsang

Wavebuster Golds: Megan Mataga

Seniors: Crissy Condus, Chris Dart & Alex Gonzalez

CALIFORNIA, DISNEYLAND IN SENIORS’ FUTURE

Plans have been made for the Senior Training Group to train at the University of California at Irvine during the Winter School Break in December.

Returning to the site where the Seniors trained during the 2003 training trip, Elite will practice 13 times in 7 days at the Crawford Pool, home of the “Anteators” and the presitgious Southern California swim club: the Aquazots.

During the last training trip to “Caly,” Elite swimmers frolicked in the Pacific Ocean, dined in a restaurant on a pier that extended hundreds of yards into the Ocean and visited Disneyland on New Year’s Eve. Similar and additional activities will be planned in addition to the grueling training regiment each senior will be participating in.

SUMMER: THINK SWIM CAMPS

When planning the upcoming summer, please consider sending your Elite 12 & Under swimmer to one of the numerous swim camps available within driving distance.

Each summer, numerous Elite swimmers spend a rewarding week (or two) at a summer swim camp. The benefits of such a camp are: 1) individual attention by reknown swim coaches 2) an increased knowledge of the sport of swimming and 3) personal growth that occurs as a result of “being on one’s own.”

The formula that seems to work best is finding an Elite friend to spend the week with at the swim camp.

If you are considering sending your swimmer to a swim camp, now is the time to do the research and make decisions (many of these camps are sold out by mid-Spring). In the back of the mailbox, there are a list of swim camps which Elite swimmers have attended in the past and where to find more information about each camp. In addition, Bill can email this list to you at your request. This summer: think Swim Camps!!
